When Lucas joined the Ravens school basketball, Nathan’s picture perfect world began to crash down. As well as threatening his star position on the team, Lucas also posed a threat to Nathan’s relationship with cheerleader Peyton Sawyer (Hilarie Burton). However, Peyton lost her chance with Lucas when he started dating her best friend, Brooke Davis (Sophia Bush), the vivacious captain of the cheerleading squad. Eventually hearts were broken when Lucas and Peyton began an affair behind Brooke’s back, shattering the ten year friendship between Peyton and Brooke. Nathan began to court Lucas’ best friend, Haley James (Bethany Joy Galeotti), as revenge against Lucas. It wasn’t long before Nathan actually fell for the intelligent good girl, reforming his bad boy ways in the process. The pair married in the season one finale.

Season one saw the journey between Lucas and Nathan from foes to friends. In season two we saw Haley, Brooke, and Peyton, branch into new directions beyond boys – Haley pursued a singing career, Brooke became class president, while Peyton started organizing all ages gigs at the new club “Tric” owned by Deb and Karen. We also witnessed the adults of Tree Hill forging new paths in their lives. Keith found love beyond Karen. Deb struggled to make a life for herself without Dan. Karen went to college and fell for professor Andy.

Season 3 was all about mending broken relationships - Haley and Nathan tried to fix their broken marriage, Brooke and Lucas overcame past hurts and reunited, while Peyton decided between Lucas and Jake. Karen and Keith became engaged when he too returned to town. Sadly their happiness was short-lived after Keith was viciously shot by his own brother during a shooting siege at Tree Hill High.

“Where We Left Off…”
When season 3 ended, we saw bad girl Rachel (Danneel Harris) grab the wheel of the limo that Nathan’s Uncle Cooper (Michael Trucco) was driving and veered the limo off a bridge. Nathan and Haley, on their way to the airport after renewing their vows in front of family and friends, saw the limo plunge into the river. Nathan jumped into the river to save them. Brooke and Peyton’s friendship was once again in tatters after Peyton told Brooke that she still had feelings for Lucas. We also found out that Karen was pregnant but she wasn’t the only one. Is it Brooke, Haley, or Rachel, who is also pregnant?

“Season 4 on One Tree Hill” **warning: contains spoilers**

When One Tree Hill returns we find out who survives – will Nathan, Cooper or Rachel die? We will also find out who else is pregnant – the answer is not as simple as you may think. Brooke breaks up with Lucas – will he return to Peyton or fight for Brooke? “There are so many different shades of their [Brooke & Lucas] relationship that we haven’t explored and I’m sort of interested to explore that. They may break up and get back together. They may choose to just try to be friends and not be able to do it…” says Mark Schwahn. Yet Chad Michael Murray (Lucas) has a totally different opinion on the love triangle, “Lucas should become a Goth,” he says. Furthermore, can Brooke ever forgive Peyton? Schwahn says “it’s going to take a while for them to mend that.”

Haunted by his guilty conscience over Keith’s death, Dan attempts to make amends by vowing to be there for Karen and her unborn baby. But is that the only reason? Chad shared his view on Dan’s supposed reformation – “To me, it seems like he’s trying to reach out and try to rekindle some of the relationships he may have burned bridges for in the past.”

There’s also a new guy in town in the form of Peyton’s half-brother Derek, but is he really what he seems? Rachel makes a play for Nathan – watch out for episode 4 where she poses for Maxim magazine. In real life Daneel (Rachel), Sophia (Brooke), and Hilarie (Peyton) will feature on the cover of the latest issue of Maxim magazine when the episode airs. Could we also see a One Tree Hill crossover with Supernatural, where Murray’s good friend, Jared Padalecki is? “I want to go to Supernatural. All my boys are over there, and they get to have fun all the time. Cross me over there. Let me kill some ghosts.”

Mark Schwahn says that “this new season the storylines are a little bigger this year and a little soapier,” but he assures us that “the stories that are being told around those incidents are heartfelt personal stories. That won’t change.” While Hilarie Burton also gave us some inside goss as to what to expect this season. “We’re up to episode 5 [at shooting]. Every once in a while there’s a story on the show where there’s kind of a lesson…we’ve got another one of those episodes coming up but I don’t want to tip you off much. It’s aggressive . Let’s put it this way – are you ready for danger?”

Despite the fact that Season 4 has only just begun, creator Mark Schwahn has already made plans for Season 5! “I would like to do something that’s never been done with any teen-based show before. It’s sort of unprecedented, and if they grant us a fifth season, I want to maybe skip college entirely…my idea would be to skip ahead and fill in the blanks in flashback in season 5. Nobody’s ever done it. And what’s cool is like, if you drop in on Peyton, who’s running her own record label or whatever, what happened?!...why isn’t she with Lucas or Jake or whoever?” Sounds pretty cool doesn’t it? Chad Michael Murray adds “we can’t all end up at the same college – that’s just kind of tacky…It’ll be nice to be done with high school and be able to play something a little bit older.”
